We are reaching out to let you know we are starting a campaign to assist Justyn Cowell and his family.
Justyn was planning to attend Roger Williams University in the Fall of 2021. Unfortunately, he has been diagnosed with a severe onset of Crohn's Disease and will need to postpone attending college until the Fall of 2022. He has had symptoms that include severe pain, nausea, cramping, vomiting, extreme weight loss; and in Justyn's case, he has developed complications including intestinal abscess, fistulas and perforations of his intestine. As a result, Justyn has been hospitalized locally numerous times, and has most recently been transported by ambulance to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston twice for lengthy stays. This past month Justyn had surgery at MGH to remove a portion of his intestines due to an abscess and once again faced an extended stay at MGH.
Justyn's family has been with him through all of this, and in addition to the extensive medical expenses they have incurred, there are numerous costs for food, housing and parking while staying in Boston to be with Justyn. Additionally, Justyn will need frequent future care at MGH for monitoring, testing and medication infusions.
The Cowell Family: Justyn, Curtis, Krista, Dylan, Brandon, and Alexis, have been an integral part of our community their entire lives. We now have an opportunity to assist them during this difficult time. This will be an ever evolving, life long condition for Justyn. We know that with the support of his family, friends and community, he will manage this challenging chapter in his life and be able to attend college in the future, and live a long, healthy life.
