The only Ryder Cup being played this year will be at Waubeeka Golf Links! Rumor has it the Pro Ryder Cup will be postponed until 2021! Meanwhile, mark your calendar for the last week of July, Erik is finalizing a Ryder Cup plan as of this writing, and a golf school, and ordering supplies, and running the Sunday clinic, and running the Sunday sweeps, and preparing for the 2 day Member/Guest July 11 & 12, and scheduling employee work days and taking care of his mom!! Phew!

Golf will be played differently this week in Cromwell, CT. …..HERE’S HOW…PGA TOUR writer David Dusek at Golfweek with an excellent look at how players will get new wares and tweaks to existing clubs..."In essence, a bubble will be created around the players at the Travelers Championship, and equipment reps will not be allowed inside it." "For example, if a player wants a new driver, he will have to contact an on-site company representative and request it. The club technician will build the driver, but if he does not have the shaft or grip the player requests in the truck, he will need to contact that shaft or grip company's rep and have it dropped off outside the truck. After the technician builds the club, he must take it to the distribution center, enter the area at one end and leave the club with another worker. The club will then be cleaned before the player enters the distribution center through a different entrance and retrieves it. PGA Tour officials said each company would be allowed one equipment truck on site, which is typical, but each truck could be manned by only one technician and one other company representative. As with many aspects of the PGA Tour’s plans, that limiting of onsite reps may change because it was pointed out that getting things such as golf balls, gloves and accessories to dozens of players from large brands like Titleist, Callaway and TaylorMade could be challenging for just one person.” "The technicians who ordinarily work closely with players are not going to be allowed on the practice range, in the clubhouse or on the course. The equipment reps will be required to be tested for the coronavirus before they arrive at Cromwell, but no one will be allowed inside the equipment vans except that company's representatives."
And on another note from The Travelers’ Tournament this week~additional players have withdrawn due to Covid-19 safety! Among them are Webb Simpson and Brooks Koepka.

Knowing when to water a green is just as important as watering a green. Certain spots require more water than the entire green since those areas tend to burn out. 
We want to moisten and cool the plant; too much moisture will cause the sun to burn the plant, which requires that fine balance between passive and aggressive watering! Monday, the temperature hit 91 degrees. Tuesday night was the best kind of rain, slow and steady between 10 PM and 5 AM!!

FROM THE KITCHEN -
We have been serving inside the clubhouse since Monday. Anyone dining inside is required to give their name and phone number in the event that we are notified of a possible Covid-19 positive test result. We do not want to become another Hilton Head! A mask is required to enter the clubhouse, but may be removed once seated. Upstairs bathrooms are open; downstairs is totally closed.
Our favorite item menu this week has been our watermelon salad and ice cream! Check out our daily specials on the website. They change frequently!!
Is there a better setting anywhere than our outside dining facility? The Suggestion Box told us the gas power washer made too much noise for those enjoying outside lunch - so, we bought an electric power washer!! Thank you for that expensive suggestion!
Interested in sitting at a table inside the clubhouse, 24/7 for the month of July? Since our tables are now 6’ apart from each other, we are putting tables inside those 6’ and having a cardboard poster made with your image. We will have the poster made with your photo for $100, and will present it to you at the end of July!! We can do 8 cardboard posters per month!! We’ll begin taking apps for August if July fills soon!

The first Junior Golf School of the season is finishing today!!! Brian Gill and myself began camp on Tuesday with 8 inspired youngsters!! We started with putting and progressed through the different aspects of the game. We conclude today with a three hole scramble. The next camp is slated for July 7, 8, 9 and is already full. There are currently 2 openings left for the final camp on July 21, 22 and 23. Camps run daily Tuesday thru Thursday, 9:00 AM - 3 PM, for youngsters 7 - 15.

Signups have started for the Ladies’ Chip & Sip starting on July 13th!! Every Monday night starting at 6 PM I will be hosting an hour- long ladies’ clinic covering all the basics from putting, chipping, irons and woods along with some of the general rules and course management!! After the clinic we will get together for a cocktail and conversation, which is included!! It was very well received last year, and will run for 5 consecutive weeks and then in week 6 we will have an informal tournament to conclude!! Weekly sessions are $20 and you can come to as many as you like!! I hope to see you there!! Call the golf shop to register now!!!

Fantasy Golf Pool starts today with The Travelers Championship.
This week’s Sunday Sweeps was Front Nine Total with the even holes on the back nine. 78% of the handicaps were used. Gross winners were, 1st - Jeff Bourdon (ended with 5 birdies in a row) 52, 2nd Chris Bourdon 57, 3rd Jim Crews 58 and 4th went to Joe Vanuni 61. The Net winners circle was filled by Dan Bourdon’s 49.5, 2nd Jack Pieraccini 50.1, Ron Goss and his 51.8 and 4th was claimed by Bobby Williams!!
Our FREE weekly Sunday Junior Clinics will continue this Sunday, @ 1PM. Again, thank you parents for helping us teach your children. In only 2 weeks, we have seen progress with the students as they bring us so much joy when they follow the techniques taught. A very special thanks to Brian Gill, whose teaching skills have tremendously added to my joy and the joy of these youngsters!
The Pro Shop hours are now daily 8 to 7 on weekdays; we started opening weekends at 7AM this past Saturday. As things continue to progress, we will continue to look at an earlier opening on the weekdays.

My week in golf got me to thinking: this column would fall under the category of PooPpourri for $400.00, Alex. Translation; a little bit of this and a little bit of that.
- I was surprised at the high numbers posted at Stockbridge Golf Club for the Mass Am Qualifier. The varsity was in town, but most of the field played like JVs. One player under par and many other quality players shooting themselves in the Foot-Joys was the theme of the day. Very surprising was the number of golfers that butchered the par 5, 8th hole and the new, improved 18th green gave them big problems also. 75 got you in and 76 got you on the alternates list.
- Lets face it, thanks to technology people are hitting the ball a long way off the tee nowadays. When Rory McIIroy is taken aback by someone's length something is in the drinking water. Bryson Dechambeau is hitting the ball off the world and is turning five pars into four pars with ease.
- I remember some golfers who were long "before long". It was once a big deal when Wade Levine would easily drive the first hole at Worthington. Ron Stoeker of Oak Ridge drove the 14th hole from the back tees and was the talk of the club in 1980. Now they probably do it with a 3 wood. During a Pro Am Scramble at the same club the pro in my group drove the 15th hole. When Pete Terpek drove the 6th hole at North Adams CC it was a big deal. He also did the same on # 15.
- Former Pittsfield HS golfer Jamie Cimini stopped at Cranwell to loosen up before his trip to Stockbridge. I introduced him to former Head Professional John Wells and it led to a story. Cimini was paired with Mr Wells in a Pro-Junior when he was 9 years old. They both remember the day vividly. Jamie bogeyed the last 3 holes on Monday to shoot 76.
- In the "I shouldn't open the paper" department, I mourn the passing of Jimmy Archey. He was an exceptional hoop player at NASC in the early 60s and a superior HS referee in Berkshire County for 30 years. A first class individual and a good friend.

PGA Tour
Ouch! After such a great first week return, the RBC Heritage had one Pro, Nick Watney, test positive for COVID19. To make matters even worse, some Philly baseball players, LSU football players, Toronto hockey players and numerous others have tested positive. At Waubeeka, let’s not loosen up our guard, follow the rules and avoid all risk. Social distance, wear your mask and wash your hands! Back on point, Webb Simpson celebrated Father’s Day by birdying 5 of his last 7 holes Sunday at Hilton Head to set a new tournament record (22 under par)!!
Tiger Woods heads an all-star lineup when he makes his return to The Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Ct. There will be no fans, but expect a very crowded leaderboard, as this promises to be perhaps the Tours greatest week yet, 7 of the world’s Top 10 will be there!

LPGA Tour
Se Ri Pak has received the USGA’s highest accolade, the Bob Jones award. She is the first Korean to do so and joins past winners Francis Ouimet, Gary Player, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Payne Stewart in this Who’s Who of golfing greats! The LPGA season will begin on July 15 with the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational.
