Our annual Spring Classic was held on Sunday. Wearing our favorite tee shirts added to the fun! A tournament like this is a reunion, and there’s no better time to connect with our golfing buddies than in the spring, after a very long winter. Thank you to all who played and thanks to our staff who made Sunday truly, “a beautiful day to play Waubeeka.”
We missed our good friend Donna Peters who passed away this winter, but she certainly was in our thoughts. Her golfing buddies honored her in a special way.
New names on the LIV tour….Dechambeau, Reed, Johnson…I guess MONEY TALKS! Kind of a shame knowing that these guys have made plenty on the PGA tour and are capable of making more if they stayed. How much does one need? Tiger was offered a billion and refused…I’m starting to like Tiger more and more.
On Tuesday, clubs across the US celebrated Women’s Golf Day and Waubeeka was no exception. A free cocktail and having Erik Tiele, our pro, hitting shots for us on Hole 7 contributed to the festivities. My only thought for next year….Hey Erik, could you hit our drives on 4? 7 we can handle!
Kudos to our superintendent and crew for our new green on Hole #9. Everyone has said they love it. The heavy hitters, like those that played with me in the Classic, can hit a driver…they’ll be taking a chance but at least they can now “go for it.” It certainly has changed that hole and I love it!
The Celtics won Game 3 in Boston last night, 116-100. The C’s will try to take a commanding 3-1 series lead at TD Garden tomorrow night.
The Farmers’ Almanac says today is a good day to bake and entertain friends. Now, how did they know that? I’m in!
Congratulations to the Hoosac Valley high school girls softball team and to our good friend and center fielder, Nora Kondel. They won their division in Western Mass. You girls rock!
The controversy continues over NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) Many schools including Indiana, Alabama and Texas A and M, have been accused of using NIL as a recruiting tool, which was not its intended purpose. Where will it end up? |

FROM THE PRO - Erik Tiele
The new 9th green opened this past Friday morning and new member Dave Johnson was the first to play it! He made the first official par 4 . Tom Degray made the first official Birdie 3 and three hours later Owen Petropulos became the first to record an Eagle 2! Congratulations to you all! I will not bother recording any numbers that chase the scale upwards.
Cleveland Golf has committed to the demo day on June 25th from 12-4. Their Launcher Drivers have been getting some great reviews. Click here to watch a quick video!!
The Club Car Tempo Walk Behinds have now been here for about six weeks and their popularity is growing. We are the first facility to have them here in Berkshire County. Walk Waubeeka in luxury! These four new carts will allow you to walk the course and it will follow about 6 feet behind you. It features a GPS unit, drink holder, divot mix bottle, cooler and a charging port for your devices.
The cost for members will be $17 dollars for 18 holes while the nine hole rate will be $11. The cost for non-members is $22 and $14 for 18 and 9 holes respectively.
The annual “Wow” Beeka Tournament will be held this upcoming weekend, June 11th and 12th. Good luck to everyone in the field!

Congratulations to Barb Lindquist, who had a hole in one on #7 during our event. Her witnesses were Deb Patten, Deb Bloom and Claire Lewis. This was her second career ace.
I had the pleasure of teaching the Berkshire TeeTimers Special Olympics golf team members tonight. What a true inspiration it is to teach these golfers! If only all golfers could realize the true joy and happiness that these individuals bring to the course with them. I think I learned as much from them as they did from me!

I have to be honest with you, I am ashamed to admit that I had never heard of this guy before John Wells told me about him a week ago.
The correct answer is D.
The 50 year old Alker is a rookie on the Senior PGA tour. After being 0-23 on the regular tour over his career with 12 made cuts, and some success on the Korn Ferry tour, Alker has become a force on the Senior Tour since turning 50.
In 9 events he has 7 top tens, been runner up twice and made every cut. He is on top of the money list thanks to a $964,000 check for winning the Senior Championship @ Harbor Shores Golf Club in Michigan, helped by a 9-birdie, 63.

As promised, I will now get to the 2022 Belmont Stakes being contested this Saturday. The mile and 1/2 distance is a route that is new to all of the two year old entrants. They have never run this far. I predict that there will be front runners who look good turning for home, and others that will be "mounting a bid" from the back of the pack and will stop like they hit a wall.
Announcers, pre race, will suggest some of the field "were bred to run all day.” That is true, but can they run fast all day??
I have not seen any past performance sheets on the Belmont Stakes so I have a built in excuse to make a fool of myself.
However, maybe those sheets are overrated .
My selections are being made before post positions are drawn and maybe those are also overrated.
We The People....Will be the early and hopefully the late speed. If he can get out in front without much pressure and set his fractions he may just forget to stop.
Mo Donegal ......Trained by "Mr Belmont" Todd Pletcher. Had a rough trip in the Derby and can certainly rebound here.
Barber Road,,,,, If Joel Rosario is in the irons (saddle for novice players) he has an outside chance, at a big price.
Ken McPeek's Creative Minister can hit the board, also at maybe 10-1 or better.
To be honest I look for value plays on the undercard on big racing days.
On the Saturday undercard the Grade 1 Manhattan will feature Gufo, who should take a lot of the action. I will attempt to beat the top choice with a horse who was very good to me on Derby Day. That horse is Brendan Walsh's Santin.
It is time to get even,,,,or even worse, and have some fun doing it.

Best of luck to a very talented and classy Mt. Greylock baseball team as they advance in the tournament. If you haven't seen senior Derek Paris play, you are missing a chance to see a very talented ball player. As a catcher his skills and fundamentals are very advanced.
Two pieces of advice to any teams that the Mounties will face. If you wander too far off any base, Paris will pick you off. If you are thinking of stealing a base, forget about it.
Coach Rick Paris is his dad and longtime Berkshire County golfer John Dawley is his grandfather.

LPGA Tour
 Last week's stop on the LPGA tour took us to Southern Pines, NC, June 2 to the 5th for the US Women’s Open at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club. Australian Minjee Lee took the title earning her second career major championship. Here’s what she played to secure her win:

PGA Tour
 Last week the Memorial Tournament June 2nd through the 5th was held at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, OH. Billy Horschel took the title with a memorable 53-foot eagle putt on the 15th hole. DEEP Thoughts
I arrived home on Saturday and have been staying with my sister and brother-in-law at their home in North Adams. It’s great to be back in the Berkshires. Luckily, I have visiting nurses and physical therapists who are trying diligently to get me back in shape. I still have to travel to Northampton for frequent transfusions, but being in a home is so much better than being in a hospital. I actually sat outside in the sunshine on Monday; something I haven’t done for 4 months! And, watching the Celtics with my good friend Dondon is a treat.
I’m hoping that when I get a little stronger, I am able to get to Waubeeka to take a ride in the new 6 passenger cart! That is my goal for next week!
