FROM THE GM - Vicki Richardello - Correction....our Open Mixed Scotch tournament will be held on Sunday October 10th.    Our entry form can be found here!  

The Allied Scotch scheduled for September 12 has been canceled, so anyone who signed up is welcome to change your plans--we would love to have you see our spectacular golf course and have a lot of fun!

Autumn is fast approaching and hopefully our New England weather will bring us more warm golf days.  Even though when we think of golf we picture a summer day, playing in the fall with the changing mountain colors brings an added perspective and joy to a great round of golf.  We are so fortunate to see Mother Nature at her finest.  And, there is no better way to view this transformation than at Waubeeka.

The Berkshire County Walk to End Alzheimer's is Oct. 2 from the Adams Visitors Center.  Volunteers are needed for this wonderful endeavor.  Email PGA Jacy Settles jasettles@alz.org  or call 352-216-7085 and let him know you can work a couple of hours.  Make yourself feel good by helping others!

As the season winds down, I reflect that this entire season there have only been 2 holes-in-one, Jamie Gaffey and Nancy Daignault.  I don’t recall any season with so few?  (OOPS, See below)

Veterans - The Country Club of Pittsfield wishes to give a great big THANK YOU to all who served our country.  Sunday, September 26, CCOP will host a Veterans Appreciation Day.  You can play 9 holes with a cart at 9 AM or 18 holes at 12:30.  Lunch will be served at 11:30 AM.  Tom Mooney can answer all questions at tomemooney@hotmail.com or the pro shop at 413 447-8504.  Signup deadline is September 20.  CCOPVETS.COM will get you registered.


Join Waubeeka now and play September, October and November for free.  Your dues will not be due until opening day, April 15, depending on weather, but you must place a deposit on your initiation fee which can be paid in installments.  Let’s talk; we will make it easy for you.  Also, the deal that potential new members look forward to each year is on again!  Four members can join and only pay for 3!  What a great way to make your own foursome all season long!

Driving Range Lighting update - we had a lighting consultant here this week and are waiting for his written report.  It is a consideration that preliminarily we feel is worthwhile.  I would love to get your feedback.

The NFL Season opens tonight with Super Bowl Champions Tampa Bay and Tom Brady playing against the Dallas Cowboys.

This week we aerated all approaches and all 60 tee boxes.  We have been consistently replacing sod from our sod farm and making repairs to the rain damaged fairway on Holes # 8 and 15.  I hope you can see the improvements, but it is so cruel how mother nature treats us......sometimes! 

FROM THE KITCHEN: TAVERN ON 7 -   

It’s banquet season and we have reservations for over 700 dinners this month.  Please check to be sure we are open when you want to come dine with us.  Certain nights we will not be open to the public, as the dining room is sold out!  This week's specials, in addition to our regular menu are Prime Rib, Filet Mignon and Rib-eye steaks served with Portobello mushroom, spinach, mashed potato and carrots.  Reservations are required.
                             

FROM THE PRO - Erik Tiele - Senior Club Championships are next Thursday and Friday, September 16th and 17th. Tee times will begin at 9:30 AM both days. There are two divisions. Ages 50-59 will play the Hybrid course and ages 60 and over will play the Gold course. Sign up today!

The Sunday Sweeps this week was pick your partner from the Tour Championship field! The winners were 1st - Geoff Tatro/Jon Rahm, 2nd - Chris Bourdon/JustinThomas, 3rd - Jim Crews/Bryson DeChambeau, 4th - Al Stalker/Justin Thomas and Net winners were 1st - Dennis Lawson/Patrick Cantlay, 2nd - Dan Bourdon/Jon Rahm, 3rd - Jake Jowett/Viktor Hovland, 4th - Ron Goss/Patrick Cantlay.

New Pro Shop Hours will begin on Monday September 13th. The weekday will begin at 8am and the weekends will begin at 7:30 AM. 

Labor Day is behind us and so are the dog days of summer but there isn’t a better time to play golf. Fall season in the Berkshires is truly a spectacular time to play!!!
With that being said, our new rates for the rest of the year follow. It’s a great deal and we hope to see you out here!!! 

Weekdays $65 includes cart 18 holes, $40 9 holes
Weekdays $55 walking 18 holes, $30 9 holes

I am currently finalizing a date for our final Demo Day of the season. It  will take place with Cobra and PXG as our two main companies!  More information to come.  If you would like to attend a fitting day, I strongly suggest you take the Combine test prior to the fitting day, using our Trackman technology.  You cannot score if you don’t know your distances from 100 yards to the pin!
 

The Glowball tournament is set for tomorrow at 7:30. Oh what fun we had in July.  Still openings for 2 teams or 8 golfers!  Priceless!  Call me now, 458-8355 and sign up for tomorrow night.


In the GM’s column above,  she expressed disappointment with the fact that season 2021 saw only 2 holes-in-one!  Leave it to Mike Cirullo to take matters into his own hands, even before the article got published!  Last Sunday, on the 145 yard par 3 16th hole, Mike pulled out his 8 iron and hit his tee shot on to the green and it began rolling down the slope.  His playing partners, Rick Lesniak, Dennis Richards and John Fosser all agreed the shot would be close and it was…...right in the bottom of the cup!  Following the local rule at Waubeeka, each witness bought Mike a celebratory beer!

Our last junior clinic was held Sunday.  Our hope is these

boys and girls had many fun filled Sunday afternoons and that they acquired a love for a game that they will continue to play their entire lifetime. We hope that they return next season to hone their skills even more.  Best wishes to each and everyone of you, thanks for bringing us a great deal of happiness and friendship! 



Ladies Chip’n Sip has two weeks left after rainouts! This upcoming week,  we will be doing a review of the 5 weeks and next week will be a short 3 or 4 hole course management lesson.
Next week I will have the pleasure of playing with Nancy Barry, Stacy Govi and Anita Hodgdon in Play with the Pro. The last such event for the season will be on Sept 28. Grab two others and let's get out there!

I guess announcing experience doesn't count anymore.  Demo tapes from previous gigs, forget about it.  How has Lenny been doing lately, you ask? 

Lenny DiNardo is a great guy, father of four and lives in Rhode Island where he and his wife are in the real estate business. He was on the Sox in 2004 (reverse the curse year) so he is always welcome at Fenway.  He was a pitcher who was up and down with triple A teams his entire career. His MLB record as a left handed pitcher was 10-18, 1-3 with the Sox. (As a right hander 0-0).  I caught him doing a game on NESN the other evening and I have some advice for Lenny; don't give up your real estate gig.  If you want to be annoyed for 3 hours, watch one of the Sox games that he is working.  I've never been a "get off my front lawn " type of guy and maybe I am becoming a little too critical of some TV broadcasts and broadcasters, but somebody has to do it.  I wonder if the CEO of NESN actually ever listened to one of his games and turned to his wife and said,"Honey this DiNardo guy is driving me crazy, can we watch Jeopardy now"?  The next time he is in the booth pay attention to his favorite phrase, "right there".  He will use that at least 10 times an inning, if the inning is only 3 batters.  He also has some back ups consisting of "right here" and "right now".  I had a philosophy  professor my first year of college who would say "All right now" after every sentence. I got in the habit of counting just how many times he would say it during each 50 minute class. His high water mark was 120, and he averaged 93 for the year.  Maybe my grade would have been better if I listened to the rest of his lectures?  I'm not trying to get DiNardo booted from the booth but I just wonder if anyone who cuts his paycheck could mention his annoying habits to him and suggest that he try to eliminate them.  Lets hope Jerry Remy recovers from his cancer issues and is back in the NESN booth real soon.  We will once again be able to enjoy a ball game, right there, right here and right now.  Key the intercom " Send in Ellis Burks please Sheila"

Congratulations to Mike Walsh on being named Sports Editor of the Berkshire Eagle.  He will do a great job to cover youth and high school sports. He was my boss at a couple of stops along the way for me to the "Beek" Newsletter. Hiring me was probably his only questionable career move.  Many times in the past I would inquire about some games that would be played and wonder why they did not make the paper.  Very often the response that I got was "No one called it in".

There you go coaches, do right by your kids. I've always believed it better to see your kid's name on the sports page than the front page.

PGA Tour - Patrick Cantlay went wire-to-wire to win the PGA Tour Championship and $15 million!  Jon Rahm did shoot one better, but the rules didn’t allow that!  It did get exciting on the 71st hole, where Cantlay had to make a 10 footer or go into the last hole tied for the lead.  Cool as a green cucumber, Cantlay sank the putt and coasted from that point on, even though Rahm hit 2 great shots on hole 72, almost holing his second and yet again his third shot.  He is a gamer.  He also is sponsored by Titleist, so every club in his bag, including that putter, all have the Titleist logo!

Joaquin Niemann was playing alone and was first off the tee at the Tour Championship Sunday and completed his 18 holes in 1 hour and 53 minutes, a PGA record for the fastest round ever at East Lake!  His paycheck for coming in 29th --$405,000!

Another record: Sungjae Im rolled in his 494th birdie of the 2021 season at East Lake, one more than Steve Flesch made in 2020, and pocketed a cool $505,000 for a 20th place tie!

This tournament marks the official end of the 20-21 Tour season.  Silly season begins next week with the Fortinet Championship at Napa, CA. 

Of course the Ryder cup begins September 24 at Whistling Straits!  Captain Steve Stricker finalized his 6 picks yesterday on live TV with favorites Jordan Speith (3 majors), Xander Schauffele (Olympic Gold), Tony Finau, Daniel Berger, Harris English and Scottie Scheffler.  They will join Patrick Cantlay, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, , Colin Morikawa, Justin Thomas and Dustin Johnson, who all qualified based on points in the past 2 years!  The USA is 2 - 7 against Europe in the past 9 matches.  Europe has Jon Rahm, Viktor Hovland,  and Rory for starters!

LPGA Tour - Team Europe went wire-to-wire to nip the favored Team USA, 15-13 over this labor day weekend at Inverness, Toledo, Ohio.  Europe led after every session and won on US soil for only the second time ever!  The Solheim Cup was named after Ping Founder Karsten Solheim in 1990.  USA now leads the biennial tournament 10 - 8 after its 31 year history!
