Bryson DeChambeau will compete in the Professional Long Drivers Association World Championship this year after the Ryder Cup, late September, in Mesquite, Nevada! I think it is a good idea to grow the game, but Bryson, -- Drive for show, putt for dough!
I am happy to announce the Women’s Fall Classic is full. We are looking forward to a wonderful day on September 25.
How about the seagull that picked up Madelene Sagstrom’s drive and dropped it 25 yards further away  from the hole in the final round of last week's British Open? Fortunately, the Rules of Golf allowed her to return the ball to where it was!
The Allied Scotch will be played at Wyndhurst GC on Sunday, Sept. 12. Both players must belong to an Allied Club to participate. click here
Glow Ball will return September 10. We will limit the field to 9 teams, 36 players. Signup sheets for a 4 person team are posted on the pro shop door! A dinner option is available before the 7:30 PM start date. Defending Champions Jake Phillips, Seth George, Chris Koch and Mike Picard plan to defend their ‘Can’t see where we’re going’ title!!

When the NY Post’s Phil Mushnick couldn’t come up with any more info on Tiger and his son Charlie, our own Dick Syriac lent him these words of wisdom! “And as reader Dick Syriac wrote, in addition to being the world’s best human being, Tiger Woods has been anointed by NBC’s Tiger-obsequious golf host Dan Hicks as the “World’s Best Father.” He's not Robert Young, who would get my vote.

FROM THE MOUTH OF JORDAN SPIETH: “I’d rather play better at the Ryder Cup than in the Tour Championship. We never get team sports, so to be able to have team sports — when you win a championship in team sports you get your parade, right? For us, that’s the Sunday afternoon after winning a Ryder Cup on U.S. soil, where everyone sticks around and you get to kind of party with everybody. That’s our parade. That’s what we look forward to.” ~~~~~~Hey Jordan, what about that $15 million FedEx Championship?
The wife of Gary Player, Vivienne, passed away from pancreatic cancer last week. They were married for 64 years, raised 6 children, have 22 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Vivienne was a champion swimmer and could have played professional golf. She had 2 holes in one---in a single round!! Said Mr. Player, “Vivienne taught me the value of love, faith and trust. She taught our children those same values, and they were blessed to have a mother who lived those values every single day. When we first met, I had no doubt it was love at first sight and it turned out to be a love story of a lifetime. I believe it will also be so when we are finally together again.”
Great article in the September issue of Berkshire Trade & Commerce. Malcolm Smith is co-founder of SUSTAINE, a company helping and providing tools to lower the energy costs of small and medium sized businesses! Malcolm is a big basketball and football fan of Williams College! His sons, Sawyer and Parker both have been here frequently. Sawyer was a great IT person here for 3 years, while his brother was a pretty good stick! Sawyer is now enrolled at Murray State, Kentucky, --another good employee heading for greener pastures! We need to get Malcolm on the golf course!

FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT - Brian Bartlett
Hard to believe, but it is time to aerify our greens. Aerification is the process by which holes are put into the greens to allow for air to be able to get into the soil beneath the green. This aeration process is needed when the soil beneath the surface of the green becomes compacted. When the soil is compacted, the grass roots struggle to breathe. We pull the soil out of the ground and use it to fill parts of the course that are low or gathering spots for water. The next step is to topdress, which means we fill the holes we just made with sand topdressing, which alleviates the compaction, allows water to penetrate the plant roots and makes for smoother and truer putts. Regular sand topdressing (twice per season) and core aeration improves surface firmness and resiliency.
The process will begin after the Club Championships this weekend. We will aerify the front nine with ⅜ in tines on Monday, with the back nine fully open. Our team will then aerify the back nine on Tuesday with the front fully open for play on Tuesday.

We will begin to aerify greens this coming Monday. Therefore we will be offering Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, August 31, Sept. 1-4 a 6 day Pre Labor Day Special. Play 18 holes with a cart for $55, which includes a free hot dog in the restaurant or a $5 credit off any food item! Due to the aerification, the greens will not be as smooth as what we have become known for, but they are still outstanding, smooth and fast greens! 
And then…. To continue with the good news….we will be offering a new weekday daily rate of $65 for 18 holes including cart and a new weekend rate of $85 for 18 holes including cart for the rest of the season!
Yesterday, The Berkshire County Allied Seniors teed it up at Wyantenuck CC in Great Barrington. Bob Linn of Pittsfield won the event while our own Ron Goss, Geoff Tatro, Todd Shafer and Jim Crews all made a little extra cash.
The Club Championships begin tomorrow. Stay tuned to see if there are any repeats or a new champ is crowned.
Unfortunately, this week’s storm put a “damper” (pardon the pun) on our weekly Sunday junior clinic and our Monday evening Ladies’ Chip and Sip! Both will resume this week and both have two sessions remaining for the season.
The Sunday Morning crew did manage to get in before the real wetness set in and with that being said, here are your winners: Gross - Geoff Tatro took home the 1st place honors, Al Stalker reeled in 2nd and 3rd developed into a tie between Chris Bourdon and Todd Shafer. Net - 1st was claimed by Tom Downey, while 2nd went to Tom Degray and 3rd net also developed into a tie between Dan Bourdon, Dave Rickert and Ken Hodgdon.
This Wednesday, September 1, and Tuesday, September 28th are the last remaining Play with the Pro Days. If you are interested in playing, grab a threesome and let me know. We can set up whatever time you would like to play that day and afterwards grab a quick bite to eat!

Watching the morning news shows; pick a network, any network, and they all say the same thing when checking in on the field correspondents.
I am beginning to wonder if this is taught to all broadcasting students at Northwestern and Syracuse.

"Let’s check in on the fires that are raging on the west coast. Carl, good morning.”
Carl " Good morning to you.”
Example # 2
" There is major destruction of property and many deaths along with towns that are under water in Tennessee. We send it to Robert Jones who is on the scene, “Good morning, Robert.”

I have just one question for Carl and Robert.

One of the greatest MLB players of all time, that nobody knows about, would be Miggy Cabrera.  He clocked his 500 homer recently and will now pursue 3000 hits. This is what can happen when you play for bad teams like the Florida Marlins and Detroit Tigers.
Who else may have a chance to reach 500 before they are done with MLB?
Nelson Cruz has 443 but is not likely to get there. He is not Tom Brady.
Giancarlo Stanton maybe? He is 31 years old and has 332.
Mike Trout 310, has to be on the field to reach 500, but he will.
Bryce Harper is 28 and has 255.
Some young guns who may get there in 10 years or so:
Aaron Judge 146.
If these guys stay healthy they could get there, Vlad Jr., Fernando Tatis Jr and Juan Soto who has 89, he is 22 years old.

Fred Goerlach of Hinsdale is rehabbing at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield after some serious surgery. The center has been placed in lock down and we can no longer visit. Let's reach out and drop him a greeting and give him a report on your golf club. Or simply a "Hey Fred " will do and sign your name.
Fred is one of the better players in Western Mass and also repaired clubs and tweaked shafts for area pros for years. He misses golf and his friends. He has been a member at Berkshire Hills for years. Fred and PGA professional Erik Tiele have been friends forever. Please reach out and send along a "Hey Fred".
I hope he gets a 1000 + cards, or more. Whether you know him or not, let's let him know we are thinking of him. He will have a long road ahead of him. Let’s see how many states that we hear from and maybe Canada or Mexico readers will reach out also.

PGA Tour - It took one extra day, one extra hole, 5 years, 142 tournaments and $1,710,000 but Tony Finau picked a great day to win! Finau is now the FedEx points cup leader going into leg # 2 of the FedEx playoffs today. The BMW is being played at Caves Valley, Owings Mills, Maryland.
Patrick Reed is out with double pneumonia, even though he is still a top 70 player, and still could be a top 30 player after this week and still eligible to play in the finals in the Tour Championship at East Lake, Atlanta.

LPGA Tour - Sweden’s Anna Nordqvist won her third major in the AIG Women’s British Open at Carnoustie. What’s in her bag? Today is the last stop before the Solheim Cup, the CP Women’s Open at the Shaughnessy Club in Vancouver, Canada.

DEEP Thoughts - ”Driving for Demar” is a golf tournament honoring Sgt. Michael Demarsico who gave his life for his country 9 years ago in Afghanistan. The staff here would like to commend his family and friends for being such a class act. If the Sergeant were here today, he could not be any more proud of all those who honored his memory.
