FROM THE GM - Vicki Richardello
PLANT THE SEED FOR THE LOVE OF GOLF…..our theme for this year. Our newest piece of artwork Cotyledon Rising has inspired us to create a yearly theme. There is no better time to start playing golf than RIGHT NOW! And, as an added incentive, we are encouraging all to bring a child to golf. We’ve heard such wonderful things about “Bring a child to work day” that we thought to begin this year’s theme….planting the seed…... we would offer a day to bring a youngster, 12 and under to play for free. We are working to find a date, so stay tuned in an upcoming newsletter for specifics.
The Ladies’ Annual Spring Classic will be held on Saturday. We have a full field and hope to have a warm, sunny day. Many great teams are coming from NY, CT and MA. The course is in fantastic shape and we are expecting many birdies...we are prepared!
From all reports, everyone who played in the ‘Wow’beeka tournament had a WOW weekend. The shoes received as a tee gift certainly added to the excitement. I asked one participant leaving on Sunday afternoon if he enjoyed himself…..his answer was, “It was EPIC!” Special thanks to the entire team for the wonderful impression they left on all participants. No doubt they will be back next year.
 For the 9th year in a row, The Williams Women’s Golf Team finished 5th or higher in the country! Coach Tomas Adalstenstein’s team finished with their best score on the 4th and final day and already they make plans for their 10th trip in a row to the NCAA Tournament. Junior Olivia White finished 18th in the nation!
Today the Ladies’ Spring Cup will be played at Wahconah and we will be playing our match with Wilbraham. We certainly can’t ask for a better day. Good luck, ladies! One week left and it will be on our home course!
Tonight is the perfect night to visit our Big Mountain Driving Range. It’s fun seeing couples, families, newbies, diehards, juniors coming into the pro shop, buying a bag of balls and heading up to the range. Looking for a perfect date night? Come visit and afterwards treat your date to a cocktail and something delicious to eat from the Tavern as you watch the sun set. Guaranteed... you will make points!

FROM THE OFFICE OF THE BAGBOYS! - Last Friday Ben Dingman and Andrew Petropulos had a big track meet against Lenox at Monument Mountain in Great Barrington. Andrew ran the 1600 and the 3200 while Ben did the 100 meter dash and the long jump. We have great kids, great athletes working at Waubeeka!

 “WOW,” what a weekend we had!! Now that we finally have warm weather, we have started to mow the fairways, tees and approaches three times a week. The greens will be mowed 4 to 5 times per week depending upon the weather. Welcome to the Ladies of the Spring Classic this weekend. The course enjoys seeing these frequent visitors to Waubeeka, always pleasant and complimentary!! Enjoy.

I would like to open this week's letter with a thank you to all members and guests for your patience and understanding with the kitchen being closed last Friday during lunch. As you can imagine, it is a daunting task to serve a plated four course dinner for 70 people. It would have been very difficult to also serve our lunch menu. Again, my thanks!
A reminder of the new lunch specials that will run through Sunday May 30: Shrimp Tacos, Philly Cheese Steak, and the new Flatbread with Fig Jam, Prosciutto, Goat Cheese, finished w/ Balsamic Reduction. This week's dinner specials that run through next Saturday are Blackened Faroe Island Salmon, topped w/ Mango Chutney, served w/ Oven Roasted Potato & Asparagus. Mini Meatloaf w/ Marsala Gravy, Mashed Potato, and Asparagus. Also, by member request, Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail.
The new dinner specials that begin Tuesday May 25, are as follows, Fresh Hand Breaded Fried Bay Scallops, served with Marinated Vegetables, and Roasted Potato, Short Rib Ravioli finished in a Sherry Demi Glaze, our appetizer will be Spinach & Artichoke Dip w/ Crostini.
As always our meals are available for take out. Feel free to call from the course for your lunch, dinner, or take out orders. Our banquet and catering menu is available in the foyer of the clubhouse. As always your feedback and suggestions are gratefully accepted.

The “Wow”beeka Weekend certainly lived up to the title...two perfect days of weather, golf, food, drinks and friendships. All I can say is WOW!
It all started on Saturday morning at 8 AM with John Swift, John Keenan, Ralph Razzano and John Boudreau taking the tee box. Fast forward to noon and the demo day began with Cobra, Cleveland/Srixon and Bridgestone here to display their products. Many happy customers walked away with some new equipment. Thank you to Brian Leskowitz (Cobra), Rob Lamy (Cleveland) and Matt Usuary (Bridgestone) for coming out and thank you to everyone that came out to try the products and made a purchase!
 
Now the golf......and was there some great golf played! 50 teams of two took to the course which played tough but fair with two rounds of 68 leading the Championship Flight, while three teams were hot on their heels with even par 71’s. All flights were hotly contested!
Day Two saw a battle develop between the top two teams while the team seeded tenth after the first day, nearly went from worst to first. In the end, the team of Geoff Tatro and Todd Shafer prevailed with a 72 for a total of 140. Sunday's low round of 67 went to the team of Toby and Reed Foehl, who claimed the First Division Title.
$5000 in prize money was paid out…….
 
Closest to the Pin winners were Todd Shafer on #3 and Ivan Lendl on #14. Both players won a dozen ProV1’s, compliments of Titleist’s Jeff Kelley!
Registration for the Allied Father Son on Sunday July 20 at Greenock will be opening tomorrow Friday May 18th at noon! Be sure to sign up! New this year is that only one of the two players for this event is required to be a member at an Allied Club.
It’s PGA Jr. League week all this week at the PGA Championship. Deadline to signup is fast approaching. Total cost is $175 for the year.
Entries open today for the men’s 2 day Member/Guest Tournament, July 10 and 11.
President’s Cup and First Lady’s Tournament. Play every day, one day, twice a day or anytime June 7 - 13. Cost is $20 each time you want to play in the President’s Cup or First Lady’s Trophy!9 Every member, including MIKEY members, are eligible. When playing in the event, every putt must be holed! Have fun!
“Guest Column from two participants in “WOW”beeka Weekend” - John Yost & Cory Amman - The expectations for our team couldn’t have been more opposite pulling into the parking lot for the “WOW”beeka weekend. One player had his very first round ever at ‘the beek’ and the other playing for the first time ever in his life. The Waubeeka Golf Links, which is nestled in the beautiful Berkshire Mountains, provides pristine greens as well as stunning views for the first time player. The challenge could not have been more fun. With perfect weather, the rookie asking questions on every shot, ‘what do I do here’? and the experienced player providing the support to weave through the course. The top notch course featuring perfectly manicured rolling greens and picturesque landscaping does not disappoint in throwing some challenges your way, with plenty of bunkers and water hazards, but the scenery makes it all worth the effort. Adding to the experience, our playing competitors were equally pleasant and fun.
The effort put forth by the Waubeeka golf staff was exceptional, beginning at sign-in all the way to turning in the scorecard. There was always a staff member available to answer a question or concern.
Don’t sleep on the onsite restaurant, Tavern on 7, offering cozy indoor tavern seating and a spacious outdoor patio. Always a drink ready and available in quick order. Every courtesy was extended by the restaurant staff.
In closing, my partner and I could not have asked for a better weekend supported by the Waubeeka Team and we look forward to visiting in the near future. WOW! |

I responded, "Do you want the good news or the bad news?”
"How about the bad news?”
"I lost a week’s pay."
"What is the good news?”
"I only work two days a week.”
That is especially meant for new "Beek" members, Phil Cohen and Sam Canfield.
Next time that you are in Lenox, stop in at Bagel & Brew and say hello to Phil and Sam. Great place, great guys.

Yes, they took a right down East Street about 2 miles, instead of a left to the 17th tee about 20 yards from the stop sign. Alcohol may have been a factor.
Wyndhurst Manor Golf Club present day. Foursome exits the 5th green. They take a dirt path behind the green to the 3rd tee. They hit their tee shots and are asked by a friendly ranger:
"Does this hole look familiar?”
They were the second group of the day so alcohol cannot be the problem.
I wish I had 4 Snickers Bars with me because they would qualify for the "Want to Get Away"? campaign .

On a recent "Red Eye" from California there was a disturbance on the flight. A group of young ladies were not complying with the face covering requirement and were reprimanded for this and also for being rude and obnoxious to others on the plane.
A warning from the pilot was needed to remedy the problem.
Who were these young ladies?
Five of them hailed from Spain, one from Russia, one from Serbia, one from Lithuania, one from India, one from Namibia and two from the USA.
How were they all connected?
They were all members of the women's tennis team from the University of Kentucky.

Recently I was able to reach out to North Adams golfing legend Trevor Gliwski to catch up with him down in Naples, Florida. The former director of golf instruction at Tiburon and David Leadbetter Academies is still playing some solid golf.
Trevor is usually a low key guy but he was very excited when we talked.
A friend and a golfing buddy said to him, " My father in law is a member at Augusta National, would you be interested in going up there to play someday?” Trevor is no fool and to avoid a work conflict he invited his boss to join in.
Last year he was invited to play Michael Jordans' new course on the east coast.
When he arrived he learned that PGA tour pro Ricky Fowler would be joining his group.
In the famous words of Henry Bartholomew Carey "That Trevor gets around.”
If Trevor's group for Augusta is a man short I wonder how many people would reach out to join that group. Just think you would have a chance to see Hootie Johnson's locker up close.

A perspective of art from the point of view of golf. David Boyajian made the trek from New Fairfield, CT to Waubeeka on “WOW”beeka Weekend and on  Sunday afternoon, he completed the installation of Cotyledon Rising!! Now we all know the cotyledon is an embryonic leaf in seed-bearing plants, which are the first leaves to appear from a germinating seed! This fabricated steel oxidized patina stands 9’ and can be seen driving by on Route 7. Stop and enjoy a burger and enjoy all the works of art on display at Waubeeka’s Art Division. All pieces are for sale and all sales support the artists themselves and Waubeeka’s Art Division! |
PGA Tour -
South Korean K.H. Lee, who shot 4 rounds of 67 or better (in awful weather), won by 3 shots last Sunday at Quail Hollow in the AT&T Byron Nelson in McKinney Texas! It was the first ever PGA win for Lee who is now allowed to play today with the real big boys! The season’s second major, the PGA Championship and the Wanamaker Trophy, direct from Kiawah Island has already started teeing off! This is PGA Jr. League Week at the PGA Championship!!
