It's A Beautiful Day at Waubeeka - OUR THURSDAY NEWSLETTER

Read this week’s newsletter containing all our course updates.

Good Morning Nate,

FROM THE GM - Vicki Richardello

Very proud of being voted one of the 8 best golf course deals in the Northeast by Golf.com!  When you are in the same category as Bethpage, any course, that is a tremendous honor! Click here for the full article.

CORRECTION: It was reported in the last newsletter that Marion Hyde beat her age, 88, a couple of weeks ago.  Marion has since informed me that she is not 88; she is 89 and will be 90 next July...so in all fairness she beat her age by not only 1 year by shooting an 88, but 6 years by shooting an 83….gotta love her!  The spunk this woman has is immeasurable!

Great article in the #8 issue of Golf Digest...everyone should read about Girl/Dad; Roland Merullo talks about new fatherhood or golf addiction.  After reading the article, you will agree that a third choice is possible.  You will read about Worthington GC and Crumpin Fox GC, accolades to two wonderful venues.

The National Golf Foundation reports that August rounds played were up 20% over August 2019!  That is another record for the biggest increase in 20 years!  In June, July and August, that is an increase of 27 million rounds!  It’s been quite a summer for golf.  Weather has been very cooperative, and at Waubeeka, we’re hoping our final couple of months continue to see the enthusiasm, the play and the fun, and above all else, being SAFE!  Thank you to all the new faces and the returning guests, but most of all, thank you to our most supportive members!

Great News.  Happy to hear friend Billy Jolin is doing well!  He may be golfing tonight!!

More Great News.  WIll Cropper, nephew of member Dan Gliwski, is in a 4 way tie after Round 1 of the 60th Massachusetts Senior Amateur Championship being played at Willowbend on Cape Cod.  Not sure how they got it in after all the rain yesterday, but we’re rooting for Will!  Will is a familiar figure here and a regular invitee for our annual Member/Guest Tournament.

Interview with Jim Lipa “Why I joined Waubeeka”. See why Jim joined Waubeeka now here.

Now is the time to send in your application for our annual Fall Mixed Scotch Tournament to be played Sunday, October 18th.  This tournament will be limited to the first 24 paid teams. Click here for the entry form.

Top Tracer Golf will be talking with our staff during a visit here next Tuesday.  Do you think we should offer the Top Tracer experience on our range? Would you like to see your ball flight like what we constantly see on TV?  Would love to hear input from both our members and guests!

Today is the last day you can join Waubeeka and avoid the $2,000 initiation fee for 2021!  Call pro Erik today and we will charge your credit card the fee deposit for next year!  Golfers live 5 years longer. Last week we were voted the best conditioned course in MA for the money!

The Los Angeles Lakers dominated  Duncan Robinson and the Miami Heat last night 116- 98 in Game 1 of the NBA Championship.  Heat President Pat Riley and LeBron don’t like each other?  Now that the Celtics are gone, GO HEAT!  Obviously, Miami is a huge underdog.  Next game is tomorrow night at 9 PM.

Our Suggestion Box has been a boon to myself and our entire staff.  We are listening, trying and very appreciative of each and every comment we receive.  You matter!

Online Booking:  We love how our system has been working and we sincerely appreciate you using our system.  Please, if you are a single golfer, be considerate of others and do not take a slot for 4 golfers, when you can move up or down 10 minutes and play with another single, 2 or 3 persons.  After all, golf is meant to be played with 4 people most of the time!   If our tee sheet is full, we will move you up or down within a 20 minute range and notify you of your new tee time!  Thanks, what a great problem to have!!  We are so happy to be seeing so many new golfers taking up this great game!

FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT - Brian Bartlett

MA Governor Charles Baker announced that we can now allow two riders per cart.  In order to exercise the utmost caution, we have purchased vinyl dividers for those who wish to have a more safe environment.  The maximum number of carts allowed will be two carts per group.  Please arrange your groups and tee times accordingly.

Yankee Magazine, the Bible on foliage in the Berkshires, has targeted the next two weeks as prime viewing season!  At Waubeeka, this is the season where our greens turn to glass as they have never rolled any faster throughout the season and our views have never been better!!

Dick Syriac (laryoflenox) writes:

Week # 1 of the Berkshire County Senior Series was a wonderful day at Berkshire Hills. Mike Hillman and his capable staff did a wonderful job and the course was in great shape.  A full field was on hand for the first of 5 WED events.  The pace of play was excellent until our group had to look for a few of Eddie Noel's errant shots.  Just kidding, Eddie played some solid golf.  A reminder to all participating golfers down the road, that the purpose of these events is to raise $$ for scholarships for county junior golfers who go on to college.  The method used in the past to raise funds was to sell tickets for a 50-50 draw at the dinner. This year Covid 19 is forcing the committee to have a donation bucket for the grey beards to make their contribution.  How should I put this?  The "take" for the day was below par. Maybe some of the senior players had senior moments and when they saw the bucket they decided to simply "play through?”  In future events,  let’s dig deep for the kids.

The 3 things that you never want to hear if you are at a golf course:

"You're still away,” "It's your round,” and the worst ..........”Frost Delay !!!!”

If there is frost on your car and lawn when you are leaving for the golf course , more than likely there will be a delay at your golf venue.  When there is a frost delay, many golfers hang around their vehicles and ask "When do you think we will be able to go out?” This doesn't make the frost dissipate. Next time, call the shop and ask about conditions...hello.  They will be more than happy to advise for they are awaiting word from the superintendent when they can release the hounds.

************************

There is a commercial circulating for the NFL on the tube that features Celine Dion singing "It's all coming back to me now.”  The version of that song by MEATLOAF is much better, plus Mr. Loaf could use the cash..

**********

The recent fire at Green Mountain Race Track is just another example of my personal carbon footprint vanishing. I will expand on this in a future issue of the WNL. The worst part was I think I left some mutual tickets in my desk from 1972 that I was going to check to see if the state of Vermont owed me a little "walking around money.”

********

Just sitting around wondering two things about the Sunday Night NFL presentation that we witness each week.

 # 1 : Can Chris Collingsworth or Michelle Tafoya ever make a statement or observation during the telecast without using the word "Al"? Are they talking to the viewers or just to Al Michaels ?

# 2 If the nation has been "Waiting all day for Sunday night", why do we have to wait for Carrie Underwood to sing us a song to tell us that ? On with the game....please.  Maybe Meatloaf should have gotten that gig also. He may be crazy, but he's crazy about you.

PGA Tour

Hudson Swafford (Who?) shot 18 under par in 4 days to capture The Corales Puntacana Championship from the Dominican Republic.  Purse $4,000,000.  For Hudson it was his second tour victory, he won the American Express in 2017.  Today the big names return to CC of Jackson, MI for the Sanderson Farms Championship.  Purse $6,600,000.

LPGA Tour

Lexi Thompson will be on hand to defend her title at the Shoprite Classic presented by Acer.  It will be held at the Stockton Seaview Hotel in Galloway, NJ  beginning today, increasing to 72 holes for the first time in a while!

DEEP Thoughts

Happiness is seeing so many people playing Waubeeka!  Even 3.5 inches of rain yesterday didn’t dampen our spirits. The course looks terrific and we’re certain golf is on the upswing….join now, and play the rest of the year with $300 credited to your 2021 membership..AND avoid the $2000 initiation fee!
